The first five stamps were designed by Jean Lucien Nicolas Jacoby (1891-1936), a Luxembourg artist who won gold medals at Strasbourg in 1924 and Amsterdam in 1928 for his Olympic sketches. These stamps commemorate the 15th Olympic Games in Helsinki, Finland and the World Cycling Championships of 1952. He was musical director of the Luxembourg Academy of Music until it closed in 1881 and was head of the orchestra at the municipal theater. Zinnen was a composer and musician who wrote the music for the national hymn "Ons Hémecht".
